Water Damage Restoration/Crawl Space Remediation

Time is critical during water damage. Delayed or improper drying can cause mold growth or additional structural damage. Steamatic of Sacramento (S.O.S.) provides 24-hour emergency services to mitigate clean, gray or black water losses.

Trained technicians extract standing water, stabilize the environment and provide structural drying services.

S.O.S. adheres to the industry standard for repairing water damage, the S500, as established by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

S.O.S. uses the best available equipment to document the extent of the water damage, monitor the conditions during the structural dry down and confirm when the structure is completely dry. Our moisture sensing equipment includes a thermal imaging camera.

For more extensive information as to how any restoration contractor should handle your water damage, see the blog posting entitled Water Damage Advice by Charles Cassani, the president of Steamatic of Sacramento. See also his blog posting entitled Water Intrusion and Health.

Crawlspaces Flooded with Clean Water

Our water restoration service includes the remediation of crawl spaces flooded with clean water. If homeowner discovers standing water in his crawlspace and calls S.O.S., our first question will be whether the source of the water intrusion has been located and fixed. A common cause is a broken pipe requiring plumbing services.  However, many plumbers won't go under a house until the water has been removed.

After flooding, safely drying the soil and the air in the crawlspace is critical. Although the water comes from a clean source, it won't stay clean once it enters the dirt crawlspace, and soil organisms will get into the humid air. For that reason, the crawlspace air must be kept out of the living area. S.O.S. sets up a safe drying system by creating a negative pressure system in the crawlspace with an air filtration device and ducting. The soil and air are dried with dehumidifiers and with additional air filtration devices if needed. Note:  air movers or fans should never be use to dry a crawlspace if the building is occupied.

Other crawlspaces may remain damp because of the high water table and not due to any leakage. In that case, options include installing humidity control systems or complete encapsulation systems to isolate the crawl space from the building. See the crawl space services page for more information about crawl space encapsulation.

Note: some causes of water intrusion may be more complex and problematic than can be solved by a plumber or by S.O.S. employees. In such situations,  S.O.S. will refer qualified engineering firms, landscapers and other contractors.
